Featuring both well-established residential areas and growing new developments, Bolwarra Heights is a prestigious and popular suburb located just 10 minutes outside of the Maitland city centre.

Situated on land originally granted to Scottish settler George Lang by Governor Macquarie in 1822, Bolwarra Heights sits to the east of the Hunter River on an elevated plateau that gives many of its residents beautiful views across the surrounding farmlands.

The Lang family home, historic Dunmore House, is a heritage-listed Georgian style homestead built using convict labour in the 1830s. It is located on the road between Bolwarra Heights and the nearby village of Woodville.

A number of new residential estates have been developed on the western side of the suburb during recent years, swelling the area’s population to just under 3000 residents, however the north of the 7sqkm suburb remains a mix of cleared farmlands and native bushland.

With only a service station selling a few of the basics, larger shopping facilities are located 10 minutes away in Maitland, with neighbourhood convenience stores also available in the nearby suburbs of Largs and Bolwarra.

Child care centres and public primary schools are located in both Largs and Bolwarra, with Catholic school facilities available in central Maitland.

Close to the amenities of surrounding suburbs and a 10 minute drive from Maitland Hospital, the suburb is well positioned in a quiet area within reach of the larger townships, with Morpeth and East Maitland around 12 minutes away.

The region’s major tourism destinations are all within each reach, with the beaches of Newcastle and the vineyards of Pokolbin less than a 45 minute drive in different directions.
